There’s Never Been a Better Time to Buy a Walk-in Tub

How do you know when it’s the right time to buy something? When it’s on sale? Is it based on new or special features? The right color, technology or other factors? Or maybe it’s the right time to buy a product because its time has come?
One of the best innovations to enter the market place in the last ten years is the Walk-in Tub.  For years, senior citizens and younger adults with mobility challenges had to depend upon traditional bathtubs for bathing.  This was creating problems.  The statistics for falling in the bathroom had become a major health issue, one that was garnering much discussion.  In 2011 a report came out that stated, “Over 80% of injuries in the bathroom were caused by falls.”  Reports also said that women were 72% more likely to fall than men.  According to research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1.6 million older adults seek emergency care each year for fall-related injuries, and especially fractures or head trauma.  In addition to potentially losing their independence, seniors 65 years old and up have a 25% greater chance of dying within six months to a year if they fall and break a hip.

It’s a fact: the Walk-in Tub provides a much safer alternative in the bathroom to a regular tub with a high threshold. Instead having to lift the leg 12 inches or more across the rim of a normal drop-in tub, they have an easy six-inch threshold to traverse. Now, after several years of being available in the U.S., the Walk-in Tub has become an advent for greater safety in the bathroom.  And there has never been a better time to get one.  Why?  Read on.

Today’s Walk-in Tubs are better made.  Just as with any new product, there must be time to shake out all the bugs in the system.  That means after ten years, these tubs just function better than their original prototypes. Initially, the structure of the tub was not as durable.  Most were made of thin fiberglass, and the supportive frame was lacking.  Today, the better Walk-in Tubs are made of acrylic or better yet, Marine-grade fiberglass.  That’s the same material you find in a ski boat, which is significantly more durable. Plus, the better frames now are made of stainless steel. That means the frame will not rust, it is lighter weight and just as durable and rugged as pure steel.
Today’s Walk-in Tubs are available in a variety of sizes. Let’s face it, people are not all the same size, so the Walk-in Tubs should be available in sizes to fit the person buying it.  Smaller size Walk-in Tubs enable them to fit through doors in the house without having to do major remodeling.  And for larger sized individuals, or those who may have to manipulate themselves out of and into a wheelchair after bathing, the doors on the tubs are wider today, thus making entry a lot easier.

Today’s Walk-in Tubs have more features available to enhance the benefits of water therapy. The air-jetted hydrotherapy system creates thousands of micro-bubbles in the tub that positively affect the entire body.  They stimulate the skin and nourish it, creating a gentle massage as the bubbles burst against the skin.  It makes for a tremendous rejuvenation of the body.  Keep in mind that your body weighs 90% less when submerged in water, easing pressure on joints, ligaments and muscles that don’t normally receive relief. Another system that can be purchased today is the water-jetted massage system. This allows for larger jet ports that are adjustable. You can specifically target parts of your body that need therapeutic attention.  The adjustable jets can alter both direction and pressure to reach the maximum comfort level, whether you are treating your back, hips, arms, legs or feet.

Another feature is the inline heater. This is a way to keep the water warm while you’re bathing.  It doesn’t continue to increase the temperature (which would eventually become uncomfortable), but rather maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the bathing experience.

The Walk-in Tub’s safety features have never been better. Not only is there a low entry point or
threshold in entering and exiting the tub (around six inches), there are many other safety features to enhance the tub. The floor and seat are typically slip-resistant.  There is also a grab bar located across from the door on the inside wall of the tub to make it easier for getting up and down.  The seat is normally ADA-compliant (17 inches) so that there is no unnecessary strain on the back.  The hand-held shower sprayer allows one to rinse off while sitting and is within easy reach, just like the faucet and other controls.  Today, everything about the tub speaks to the point of safety and ergonomics.

Our Walk-in Tub’s prices have never been lower. I know, there are many companies out there who still charge ridiculous prices for the Walk-in Tub, but there are a few, like Tub King, Inc., which has made these tubs affordable for everyone.  I receive emails constantly from potential customers saying, “Why are some firms charging $10,000 to $15,000 for the same Walk-in Tub that you sell for less than $3,000?”  Of course they’re wondering if there’s something defective about a Walk- in Tub that’s priced so low.  It has nothing to do with higher price/better quality.  The answer lies in how companies choose to market their products.  Some companies are content to sell fewer tubs (less hassle for them) while marking the price up.  Others, (like Tub King, Inc.) would rather sell more volume, thus helping more people obtain their tub at a lower more affordable price.
There has never been a better time to own a Walk-in Tub.  Not only does it help with safety in the bathroom, creating independence so that you don’t have to depend on others while performing your own personal hygiene maintenance, relaxing the body, and soothing aching muscles, it can also help with many medical conditions.
One article listed the following areas that might be helped by regular hydrotherapy sessions in a Walk-in Tub:

  • Balance Challenges
  • Bronchitis
  • Chest Congestion
  • Colds

  • Joints
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Lumbago
  • Muscle and Nerve Concerns
  • Poor Circulation
  • Rheumatism
  • Sciatica
  • Shingles
  • Stress
  • Varicose Veins
As I mentioned above, there has never been a better time to purchase a Walk-in Tub.  No reason to wait.  You can get a well-equipped Walk-in Tub at a great price and utilize a professional installer, your own plumber, or maybe even your own skills to install the tub.  Most Walk-in tubs will fit right in the spot where you have a bathtub now.
Maybe it’s time to stop reading about it, and take the next step.  Your body, mind and spirit will thank you.
In this article, I listed several reasons why now is the best time ever to buy a Walk-in Tub.  Today’s models have new and improved design features since they were first introduced about a decade ago. Several upgrades have been made to improve their already high safety standards. Also, new features have been added to provide additional health benefits.

Finally, Something That Really Works for Seniors

By Kerry Knight

We live in a world that is hyped and full of misleading advertising. Trust is a commodity that is lacking for a good reason. Lying has become a national pastime for politicians, large corporations, financial institutions and big advertisers. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of honest people, businesses, advertisers and even politicians out there.  Nevertheless, more often than not, we are fed deceptions with gotcha’s in the fine print or hyperbole in advertising.

As a company, we do a lot of advertising and sometimes we get great feedback from our customers.  We know that any advertising of any product is met with a degree of skepticism.  Since we are all  bombarded on a daily basis from TV, radio and the internet with advertising, we begin to think, “They’re just out for our money … and we only have so much to go around. “ Do any of the claims really live up to the hype?

Seniors, in particular, seem to be a target of bogus advertising.  Why?  Because some imagine that seniors are ill-informed or easily manipulated.  How wrong they are!  Of all consumer groups, none are as educated, savvy, aware, and informed as our seniors.  They have something most others don’t … !  When you’ve been taken advantage of a few times over the years, you learn something.  You learn to spend more time checking things out.  You learn to spend your money wisely.
You’re not so easily fooled.

We recently delivered one of our senior walk-in bathtubs to a customer who lives in a retirement community.  He really didn’t want the tub, but his wife wanted it for him.  On the phone, he questioned everything.  He did his research.  Then finally, one day, he called.  “I’m ready for my walk-in tub.”  I asked, “Do you have any questions?”  He said, “No, I’ve asked them all.”

After we delivered it and installed it, we received a call a few weeks later.   He said he had started recommending our walk-in tubs to his friends in the community.  He had actually invited them over to use the tub and test it.

No amount of radio, TV or internet advertising can do what he has done.  Word of mouth from a satisfied customer is the best there is.   He told them that at first he was skeptical.  He wondered if it would really help his arthritis, back pain and joint discomfort.  After using it for a few days he was totally sold.  He also mentioned that he was no longer worried about falling in the bathtub.  Prior to the purchase, he was slipping and taking spills about once a month.  Since using his walk-in tub, he has not fallen — once.
It was hard for him to admit to his wife that she was right all along, but he finally did.  He’ll now tell you that this tub was the best purchase he’s ever made. He had finally found something that works.

What to Look for in a Walk-In Tub

If you are considering the purchase of a walk-in bathtub, we recommend you do your due diligence. There are many companies ready to take advantage of seniors who don’t take the time to learn about a product and the company that’s sells it before they buy. We recommend that you compare features; Are they pre-plumbed? What is covered in the warranty and how long does it last? What kind of professional certifications does the tub have? Does the price include the delivery cost and installation fee?

A Testimonial From One of Our Satisfied Customers

Before you buy a walk-in bathtub you need to review a company’s reputation.  Look at customer testimonials and talk to people who have purchased a walk-in tub. Ask how they were treated and how did the delivery and installation go. Most important, ask how they like their walk in tub.

Be wary of review websites. There are many fake walk-in tub review sites on the internet touting unbiased reviews. Most only recommend the tubs they sell. A good walk-in tub will have many certifications and a strong warranty. We are so sure of our walk-in tubs that we even provide a price match guarantee and we always provide free delivery in the lower 48 states.

In this article, I have discussed a product that works for seniors, the Walk-in Tub. I  explained how seniors are often targeted with false or misleading advertising about walk-in tubs. I also provided readers a checklist that they can use to determine who is an honest vendor, and what walk-in tubs have the best features and value for their needs.

While Making a Place for Your Parents, Include Room for a Walk-in Tub

By Kerry Knight

Today we see family’s of all sizes, shapes and configurations. We see the kids moving back in because they are trying to save money. We also see adults moving their parents into their homes to be closer to the grandkids and to help them adjust to the ever-growing demands that their aging parents are faced with. Today, it’s all about having the right kind of space for your particular family.

Spring is in full swing.  It seems like everyone is in the mood for working on their lawns and homes.   Some new homebuyersare finding small, dated homes they can go in and fix up.  Oftentimes, they have to add an additional bathroom to make them truly functional.  With a little TLC, they can turn a house that no one wanted into a modern plum of a pick.  Just by adding a special tub, like the clawfoot tub can make the house appealing to more people.

Others are expanding their own personal homes to include a place for mom or dad.   The living quarters will no doubt provide a small kitchen, a bedroom and a bath, that is especially designed for seniors.

Testimonial for Tub King Walk In tubs

Many grown children are looking for ways to make life easier for mom and dad as they enjoy their golden years.  Sometimes it’s not possible to move them into their homes because of space constraints, having careers to deal with, and housing needs that are just not available.    So, many times they will construct a small addition or separate apartment to accommodate them.  This will require special attention to safety and handicap needs.  If the senior has difficulty getting around, there will be the need possibly for wheelchair ramps coming into the apartment, placing the on and off switch for lights lower on the wall, wide doorways and hallways for easy passage with both walkers and wheelchairs, and a bathroom to fit their specific needs.  Grab bars for the walls will be especially needed.

The bathtub is another concern.  Seniors will want to be able to bathe independently if at all possible.  This means providing a bathtub that is safe and easy to enter and exit.  The Walk In Tub is ideal for this.  These tubs come with a door and seal that keeps it from leaking.  They can actually walk in, sit down on an ADA compliant seat, then close the door and lock it.   The tub can be filled with warm water to chest level, and without assistance from anyone, a senior can bathe themselves and rinse with the handheld shower that is within easy reach.  There are also options of air jets, water jets and inline heater for water therapy.

Three Options for Walk In Tubs
When the senior is finished bathing, they simply open the drain, continue to rinse off the soap and begin towel drying.  When the tub is empty, they can open the door and exit.  The entire process is accomplished without anyone’s help.  Plus, there are many safety features to keep them from falling.  There is a low threshold on the entrance through the door of the tub.  The set up is typically only 6 inches.  The seat and floor of the tub are slip resistant.  In addition, there is a grab bar within the walk in tub to make it easy to get up and down.

The Walk In Tub is indispensable for insuring safety and independence for mum or dad.  The Walk In Tub can go right into a spot where a traditional bathtub would go.  The installation is not difficult.  The plumbing will match up to existing plumbing and the electrical usually requires only a couple of 110 volt circuits.

As a Walk In Tub company ourselves, we receive phone calls daily from grown children looking for a solution of how to take care of their parents in their senior years.  We are happy to be able to help them at a price they can afford.  What is really gratifying is to get calls from the children after the tubs are installed.   They thank us for solving a big concern they had.  They also tell us about how happy their parents are with their new bath addition.  So in planning a place for mom and dad in their special years think seriously about the addition of a walk in tub.

In this article, I discussed how walk in tubs are being used by families all over the USA. This trend shows family’s having multiple generations moving back to live together. This is especially true for adult who are making room for their parents to stay with them. I discuss how planning for your elder parents’ needs can make a big difference for their safety, and independents. Planning for a walk in tub, verses a standard tub can make a big difference. These walk in tubs can increase their independence, quality of life, provide therapeutic care, additional comfort, provide greater support and peace of mind. In addition, Walk in tubs can come with all the bells and whistles to provide real health benefits without breaking the bank. Adults with aging parents are finding that these new walk in tubs are filling a real need for safety and doing the right thing for helping mom and dad enjoy their golden years.

Walk-in Tubs Are Great For Middle-Age People, Too

By Kerry Knight

Being an experienced babe boomer, I know I want to feel and look younger, remain active late into my golden years and remain healthier than my parents did at my age. I wish I had a Walk In Tub when I was in my forties. It would have helped me be that much more healthier today.

Although the majority of those who purchase and use Walk In Tubs are senior citizens, there are others who have found them to be life savers.  One such group would be the middle aged who anticipate a need in the near future.

We recently delivered our Model 202 Walk In Tub to a home that was under construction.  I had only talked to the buyer by phone, and was surprised to find that she was only in her 40’s.  She explained that she had a chronic, nagging back pain and said that since she was building her dream home why not include her dream tub.  This tub can help her right away, but it will especially be valuable as she ages.

Another group of middle-aged Walk In Tub enthusiast are very active athletic people and those who don’t have room for a Jacuzzi style spa. A Walk In Tub provides spa benefits without taking up lots of additional space.

Walk-in bathtubs aren’t just for seniors

I am finding that more and more middle aged adults are seeing the need to include the Walk In Tub early in their new home or upgrade planning stages.

They know that it’s a lot less expensive to install it while the house is being built than to wait a few years and have to take out the existing tub with all the demolition and additional cost.

There are many physical challenges that affect the middle aged.  Many are seeing the onset of some debilitating illness that will only get worse over time.

The value of water therapy has been documented time and again.  For the younger crowd, who are already having trouble getting around, they will love the safety features of the Walk In Tub. It will all but eliminate the apprehension of falling while getting into and out of a traditional tub.  Most claw foot tubs are actually 25 inches from the floor to the top of the rim.  That is a challenging to step over for any age.

The middle age crowd appreciates the help that walk in tubs can provide.  The soothing air jets can relax tired, aching muscles, and reduce the pain associated with back pain, fibromyalgia, early arthritis and much more.  Did you know that the human body weighs 90 percent less in water?  That fact alone brings rest to a weary and tired body.

Most adults who are middle aged have work stress.  The water jets can literally massage those tense muscles and bring immediate welcomed relief.  The jets can be adjusted to direct the pulsing water to any spot and the pressure of the jets can be adjusted to your liking.

Sleep disorders can often result from work stress.  This is another area where the Walk In Tub can really help.  A fully relaxed body will sleep much better.  The elevation in the body temperature alone has been documented to provide a more relaxing sleep.
There are many reasons to consider purchasing a walk in tub, even if you are still in your 40s.  Taking better care of your body now will result in better health as we age. Everyone should be looking to take better care of his or her bodies.  We will be thankful we did, as we get into the golden years.

In this article, I have discussed several reasons why middle-aged individuals are purchasing Walk In Tubs for their homes. Some purchase a Walk In Tub as a space saving spa, others to address a specific health issues like lower back pain and still other are planning ahead, saving money now on construction and being ready to deal with age related issue when they arrive.

The Most Comfortable Bathtub in the World

By Kerry Knight

We just finished participating in a Home and Patio Show in which we displayed our Walk-in tub.  The vast majority of those who stopped by our booth asked if they could sit in the tub.

Do you know what their number one comment was?  “This is so comfortable!”  They spoke of how the back of the tub and seat were contoured to fit the body.  There was also no strain while sitting down or standing up, due to the help of the sides of the tub and the interior grab bar.  As you probably know, the hardest part of getting into a traditional bathtub is going from a standing position to a sitting position.  The Walk-in Tub is designed with a seat which should be ADA compliant, normally 17 inches high.  The waterproof door allows one to enter without any awkward movement of the body.   So, even while soaking, a person can enjoy a very comfortable bathing experience.

But let’s go a step further.  If you add air jetted hydrotherapy to the tub, the comfort factor increases dramatically.  There are usually 18 or so ports that blow warm air (off the motor itself) into the water to create thousands of therapeutic bubbles.  This relaxes every muscle and helps with numerous medical conditions.

Being able to relax in warm water is a therapy in and of itself.  It goes back thousands of years.  Back in 1982 while visiting Rome, my wife and I experienced the Roman pools.  The water was taken from hot springs just as it was during the great empire of Rome.  The heavy mineral content seemed to do wonders for the body.

Another comforting feature of the tub is the water jets.  The water within the tub actually circulates back into the pump and is released again to create a whirling or massaging action.  The jet ports are adjustable as to pressure and direction.  Tired, aching muscles receive welcomed relief.

There are many ornate and stylish tubs out there, but if you are looking for comfort nothing surpasses the Walk-in tub.

Why do New Products Appear? Necessity!

By Kerry Knight

The new year is here and they are coming! You know what I’m talking about, the new and improved must-have’s, can’t-live-without items seen on every TV, heard on all the radio stations, and plastered all over your internet search results. The new, must-have

things!

Every day some hot new product appears in the market place.   It’s marketed as something you simply must have.  How could we have lived without it for so long? We wonder where this product came from.  However, a better question than “where” might be “why?”

Another combination of chocolate and nuts can’t be that important.  Putting out some new fragrance can’t make that much difference in attracting your soul mate, can it?  Most ads are just over-the-top.  Just look at the Super Bowl ads.  Pure entertainment!  They may not sell, but they can sure make you watch.

Someone once said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”  When the public needs something, someone will find a way to satisfy that need.

A few years ago, some marketers started paying attention to aging trends In 1900 in this country, there were three million men and women over the age of 65.

Baby Boomers Haven
Baby Boomers Haven (Photo credit: thinkpanama)
By the year 1950, that number had quadrupled to 12 million.  In 1980, it had doubled again to 25 million.

Today, as our senior population has grown to over 40 million, (that’s one in eight Americans). That number is expected increase even more and will reach close to double that by the year 2030.  At a total of over 72 million men and women over 65, that will represent twenty percent of the US population.

After looking at aging trends, someone decided to look for marketing trends. What do seniors need most of all?  What are their concerns?  How can we market to them?

A recent article I read stated that today’s seniors want something very different than their parents had. They want to feel and look younger. More importantly, they want to enjoy life more, stay active, be independent, and take better advantage of their retirement years than their parents did.

One of the greatest needs of seniors was how to remain mobile.  This led to better walkers, wheelchairs and electric scooters.

Another was how to receive help with transportation, meals, housekeeping, and companionship.  That led to the creation of in home health care and assisted living facilities.

Great strides have been made in medicine, nutrition and supplementation allow seniors to feel younger and be more active. This desire to be more active and independent also has a down side. Senior can still get hurt, and once hurt senior take longer to heal. This has lead to all manner of health and healing aids including aids for independent living.

Along the lines of independence living was the need for being able to bath independently in a safe and therapeutic way.  How can I bathe myself without the fear of falling?  Is there a way I can sit and bathe without having to get down into a conventional bathtub, with the awful strain on the back and legs?

In addition, there are a ways to add joy to the bathing process. By adding hydro (water) therapy, just like in a hot tub or Jacuzzi, you get therapeutic results without having to step down into a sunken tub and running the risk of serious injury?

Check out our Walk In Tub Buyers Guide, It’s FREE!

When these questions came to the light of day, someone found an answer.  The answer was the Walk In Tub.  Remember, necessity is the mother of invention.  When enough people need something and want something, it will eventually appear.

Today thousands are enjoying safe, independent bathing, with all the advantages of huge therapeutic tubs, but without the size constraints or huge expense.  They come in sizes to fit exactly in the space where your bathtub is now.   Moreover, they are affordable and provide a multitude of health benefits to sooth many ailments.   You should be able to get a Walk In Tub with faucet, controls, drain, overflow, hand held shower, grab bar, air-jetted hydrotherapy, water jet whirlpool massage, inline heater, and free shipping for under $3000.   Take the time to check it out for yourself.  It might be the best thing that has appeared on the market for seniors in a long time.

In this article, I have discussed how the advertising industry hypes and exaggerates new products every year. It further goes on to explain why new products appear. They appear as necessities, items fulfilling people’s desires based on their needs. This article discusses the many needs of our aging baby boomer generation. The 40 million Americans looking to act feel and look younger than their parents did. It further goes on to tell how the Walk in Tub was born out of necessity to fill one of those baby boomer needs.

Walk-in Tubs … Great for the Whole Family

By Kerry Knight
Have you ever wondered if a Walk in Tub would be appropriate for people of all ages? I mean, do you really have to be a senior to enjoy the therapeutic benefits these tubs have to offer?  I started thinking about this after several clients told me how their families enjoy coming over to their place to use the Walk in Tub.
I was recently talking to one of our customers who had purchased a Walk in Bathtub.  She had purchased it for herself several months earlier, and was thoroughly enjoying its many therapeutic features.  Her tub offered air jetted hydrotherapy, with thousands of bubbles that soothed her body and relieved her various aches and pains. It also provided water therapy for her many physical problems, such as a water jetted massage system that swirls the water and pulses pleasant water pressure against her back, legs and hips.  This was one feature got the attention of the whole family.  She amused, “Now, when my kids and grandkids show up, they all head for the Walk in Tub.”
It’s true. A 40-year old “kid” can enjoy the Walk in Bathtub just like a 75-year old.  Mid-life years offer their own set of therapy needs.  Back problems can arrive without warning.  Just bending the wrong way or trying to lift a little more weight than you should, can bring on lower back pain. This can inflame the sciatic nerve, sending pain to your legs and knees.   Falling off a ladder or tripping down a flight of stairs can require quite a few weeks of in-home therapy.  And sometimes even the young can develop serious illnesses or have accidents that require the need for water therapy.

The smaller kids just love to play in the tub.  The controls are easy to operate, and the children will feel like they have their own personal hot tub.  For those parents who have cajoled their youngsters to take a bath, the walk in tub is a great incentive.
The tubs are just about maintenance free. Just an occasional wipe down and then allow the jets to run their cycle.  Occasionally, simply run a little low foaming liquid cleaner (like dish washing liquid) through the system to keep it sterilized. That way you can have it ready for the family visits.
We haven’t found anyone yet who can’t benefit from the Walk In Tub.  Many very athletic young adults love the tubs because of their muscle strains, sprains and mild tissue injuries from training.  Those who jog, play tennis, bike, and exercise regularly or get involved in competitive sports, will find tremendous benefit from its use.  Just imagine coming home after a difficult day at work and stepping into the tub for a few minutes.  Open the watertight door, sit down and turn on the jets, allowing all the day’s worries to disappear.
Ahhhhhh.  Now that’s a real healthy, happy hour.
The tubs come in different sizes so they can accommodate a person of any size.  The door of the tub is wide, allowing easy access and the step up over the threshold is highly accessible.  The interior is wide and the seat is comfortable.  The water jets actually come with an inline heater so the water always stays warm.  We’ve all been in traditional tubs where we soaked for a while and then noticed that the temperature was dropping.  All the benefits from warm water therapy then quickly disappeared with the introduction of the sudden shock of cool or cold water.  With the inline heater, you can stay in the tub as long as you like.
With all its many benefits, the Walk in Tub has become a favorite for the entire family.  So, if you are a senior and you wish your family would visit more often, this might just be the carrot on the string to get them there.
In this article, I recount all the wonderful benefits that one of our customers shared with me about their Walk in Tub. They talked about all the therapeutic benefits for the hydrotherapy, the jetted massage and the heated water.  They went on to explain how their whole family enjoys and uses the Walk in Tub in their own way.  It just goes to show that any generation loves to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits a Walk in Tub has to offer.
